The shirt has become in recent decades the undisputed queen of the summer months. It was not always so, because until the late fifties of the twentieth century, it was considered an undergarment.
Its origin goes back to World War I, which was used by European soldiers as part of basic military equipment, and in general it was in use as complement of the shirt and covered by this one, without never being exterior.
